Worcester – Solomon “Bert” Burke Williams Jr., 68, of Worcester, MA died May 8, 2015 at St. Vincent Hospital after a battle with a chronic illness.

Solomon was the son of the late Addie Jeeter and Solomon Burke Williams Sr.  He is predeceased by a brother Henry Williams, and a sister Brenda Williams-Jackson.  He is survived by his wife Gertrude (Tolson) Williams, two brothers, Willie James Williams of Dallas, NC and Daniel Jones of Baltimore, Maryland; a niece, Tanya Williams and Tyrone Willams of Gastonia, NC; five step-children, and one daughter-in-law; Michelle Cook, Douglas Cook, Jason Cook, and Marie Bernard-Cook, Natalie Turner all of Worcester, MA eight grandchildren Jaleesa Cook-Lee of Charlotte, NC, Jamilla Cook-Lee, Zenobia, Christopher, and Jeremiah all of Worcester, MA.

Solomon was born November 10, 1946 in Gastonia, North Carolina.  In his younger years in Gastonia, Solomon found his love for golf as he took his first job as a golf caddy. He also loved the pride of the University of North Carolina Tar Heels various sports teams.  He graduated from Highland High School class of 1963.  From the early 1960’s Solomon worked for Martin Funeral Home until his relocating to Worcester in the summer of 1971.  In Worcester he started working for Norton Company where he remained in service for 31 years retiring at the age of 55 and was a member and former president of the Quinsigamond Lodge of Elks, NO. 173 Worcester.  Solomon’s time with the former Quinsigamond Lodge of Elks was spent chairing many committees from the senior citizens dinner to the many children’s programs. His kind and caring soul touched so many over the years.  Solomon had many lifelong friends that will miss seeing his famous Tar Heels blue hat.  In lieu of flowers, please forward donations to Abby’s House, 52 High Street Worcester, MA 01609.  Visitation will be held on Friday May 15th from 10:00 – 11:00 am followed by the funeral service at 11:00 am in the Graham, Putnam & Mahoney Funeral Parlors, 838 Main Street Worcester, MA.  To share a memory or offer condolences, a guest book is available at www.gpmfunerals.com.
