Barbara J Whalen

Barbara Jean (Beaudoin) Whalen, Ph. D., 67 of Shrewsbury, MA passed away unexpectedly October 30, 2020. Barbara was born in Manchester NH to Joseph R. and Dorothy C. Beaudoin. Barbara is pre-deceased by her beloved husband, Kevin J. Whalen. Her family includes brothers Ralph E. Beaudoin and wife Lee of Raymond NH, Peter B. Beaudoin and wife Linda of Manchester NH. Her sister Rachael Caron-Purinton of Nashua NH, along with numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Barbara attended Goffstown High School, graduating in 1971. She completed her Ph. D. in Immunology at the University of Connecticut in 1993. Barbara was a dedicated research scientist. She worked at the University of MA Medical School, Division of Diabetes as an Assistant Professor until 2003. Subsequently, she served as a Senior Scientist and Research Director for Biomedical Research Models, Inc. until her retirement in 2013. Barbara held two patents in Methods of cancer treatment/prevention. Known for her kindness, compassion and generosity, Barbara lived a simple life dedicated to her work and family. She enjoyed life and hiking in the White Mountains and the Adirondacks with her husband, Kevin. A private memorial service will be held for immediate family only, we are not sure if it will take place at Graham Putnam & Mahoney Funeral Parlors as of this time.
