Cameron Bishop Obituary

Cameron David Bishop, 78 years old of Spencer, MA, passed away on April 10, 2021, due to complications following emergency heart surgery on March 31, 2021.

Cam is survived by his wife Mary Hollingsworth of Spencer, MA; his son Jonathan of Portland, OR, his wife Dawn, and their children Mikenna, Jacob, Noah and Talia; his daughter Tania Thomas of Grafton, MA and her children Tyson, Trey, Madison and Christopher; as well as extended family, many friends and colleagues.

Cam’s life was dedicated to making the world a better place for all.  He had a strong sense of justice and equality, and the highest of ethics. He was a civil rights activist, a veteran later an antiwar protestor, and an advocate for those unable to speak for themselves.  As a long-time investigator, social worker, and ombudsman, he was highly respected in the Human Services sector.  He worked for DSS (Dept of Social Services), DPPC (Disabled Persons Protection Commission), and various Elder Services organizations.  In Maine, he was a Community Leader/School Board Member who implemented policies and reformed curriculum for students with learning differences.  He was also a rodeo rider, rancher, farmer, beekeeper and raised rabbits.

His private life was loving and devoted to family first.  He was an avid sports fan and loved watching sports, in particular college football, having played briefly at Penn State.  But his real love was watching his talented grandchildren play sports, whether in person or remotely, or just talking sports with them.  He loved hosting family dinners or taking the family to dinner after games.  He was also a fiercely loyal friend.

Cam was a life-long learner and avid reader.  He attended Penn State, Colorado State, and Salem State where he obtained a Masters in Education.

Arrangements by Graham, Putnam & Mahoney, Worcester, MA.  Burial will be private.  A Celebration of his Life will be planned for the summer.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his honor to the charity of your choosing.
