Kurt Wolfe Obituary

Kurt Wolfe, 1950-2021
Kurt Wolfe, retired journalist, died in his home after a lengthy illness on June 29,
2021.  He was well known at Genesis Club, Worcester and recently worked at the
 Worcester Public Library.
Mr  Wolfe was born in Colorado and moved to the San Fernando Valley in
California at an early age when his father took a position at 20th Century Fox.
After graduating high school, Kurt joined his father at Fox where he became a
negative cutter working with the likes of George Lukas and Clint Eastwood.
During this time he  and his  former wife, Margo, raised their daughter Heather, now
deceased. He also developed a fervor for photography and writing, which largely
shaped the rest of his life.
After leaving Fox, he went on to travel the world as a journalist.  His passion was
reporting on underserved communities and issues of social justice. He also served
as a cable news commentator in New York City in the 1980's, Including hosting
a regular program called Gay USA. His reporting put him on a familiar basis with many well-known political figures, including former NYC Congresswoman Bella
 Abzug.
After leaving New York, he took a position as an Army Civilian TV journalist.  His
talents were such that he raised the quality and interest of the broadcasting.  What
began as a small army-base-only station became a full service cable TV station
reaching over 355,000 viewers in the Savannah, Georgia area.
The high point in his affiliation with the military came when he served as an
embedded journalist in Irag.  There he put his life at risk  to tell the stories of
the service men and women whom he so admired.  After returning to the US, he
lived in Worcester and continued writing to advance the quality of life for others
 in the community.
Mr. Wolfe also had a lighter side. He was always quick with a joke and was  an
actor and standup comic.  He taught journalism and was working on a screenplay
and a novel when he died.
A celebration of his life will be held outdoors on Sunday, Sept. 5 at 4pm.  Please
call 508-753-1457 for details.
