Barbara Ann Fano passed away from a serious illness at The Meadows Nursing Facility on October 17, 2023.
She was born on October 5, 1944, to Alexander K. Fano (father) and Anne Mary Fano (mother) in Worcester, Massachusetts residing in the Green Island area. She graduated from David Fanning Girls Trade High School in Worcester. As a teenager she had many friends and loved her music 45 records especially her favorite singer Elvis Presley. She attended Mount Wachusett Community College in Gardner, Massachusetts with a degree as a Licensed Practical Nurse at a young age, while obtaining her Registered Nursing Degree in the early 1980's.
Receiving degrees in Nursing gave Barbara a great sense of accomplishment. She wore her pin and cap taking her job seriously. She spent many years working in the Maternity Ward at Health Alliance Leominster Hospital. She handled private duties and later in life worked at nursing homes.
She leaves behind a brother John Fano, and a sister-in-law Nancy Fan, sons Edward Bliss, Jr. and Ernest Bliss, daughter-in-law, nephews and nieces, and several sisters-in-law on her husband's side of the family. Barbara was married to Edward Bliss, Sr. who passed away in September 2003.
Upon retirement from nursing, Barbara resided in Florida, Buffalo, NY and later settled in Albany, NY. She relocated back to Worcester, and in 2020 was inflicted with Covid-19 virus but fought bravely after two months in an ICU Unit. She recovered at Vibra Healthcare and settled down for the last three years at The Meadows Nursing facility in Hopedale, Massachusetts. She loved living at The Meadows participating in activities such as exercising, crafts, and interacting with staff and residents.
Barbara had such a caring heart and would help anyone in need. She demonstrated love and respect towards others, and it did not matter about race or ethnicity, she gave respect for everyone.
Her pleasure was visiting the beaches of Cape Cod in the summertime, and her Chevy Cavalier car.
Calling hours will be held on Tuesday October 24th, 2023 from 10am-12pm at Graham, Putnam & Mahoney Funeral Parlors 838 Main St Worcester, Ma 01610 followed by an interment at Rural Cemetery 180 Grove St Worcester, Ma 01605
